Abstract
pithelioid sarcoma, first described by Enzinger at 1970, is a malignant tumor of unknown
origin and occur almost exclusively in the extremities, usually in the hand or foot
associated with aponeurotic structure. These tumors differ in their natural history from
most other sarcomas in that they have a greater tendency to spread to noncontiguous
areas of skin, subcutaneous tissue, fat and bone. Its pathologic features are likely to be
confused with chronic inflammatory process, a necrotizing granuloma, & squamous cell
carcinoma. This tumor occurs chiefly in young male and grows slowly but frequent
recurrence and metastasis to lungs are common.
A 29 years old man was admitted to Chung-Ang University Hospital on August
26th, 1991 complaining with dyspnea and chest pain. He has been diagnosed as epithelioid
sarcoma at left forearm 2 years ago. On chest X-ray ant CT, multiple metastatic
nodules were observed at right upper and middle lung fields with right pleural thickenning.
Biopsy of the protruded mass at right thoracic wall showed metastatic epithelioid sarcoma
cells. In this paper, we report one case of recurrent epithelioid sarcoma with metastasis to
lung and skin after radical operation.
